Storyboard Text

  • HELLO! Today, I will talk about atoms, its structure and history.
  • The basic building block of matter are atoms.
  • Atoms has three sub-atomic particles:Protons(positively charged particles),Electrons(negatively charged particles) and Neutrons(partcicles with no charge).
  • Atoms with equal protons and electons is a neutral charge. If there are more protons than electrons, it is a positive charge. If there are more electrons than protons, it is a negative charge.
  • John Dalton created the very first theory.(1808)
  • J.J. Thomson discovered electrons using the Cathode Ray Tube.(1897)
  • Democritus proposed that matter could not be divided into smaller pieces.
  • Ernest Rutherford discovered protons and the nucleus using the Gold Foil Experiment.(1911)
  • Neils Bohr improved Rutherford's model by proposing that electrons move around the nucleus in specific layers, or shells.(1913)
  • The Modern Model(1932-) Work done since 1920 has changed the model. The new atomic model has electrons moving around the nucleus in a cloud.
  • James Chadwick discovered neutrons while working with Rutherford.(1932)
