Storyboard Text

  • Parallel
  • In both cases of the witch hunt and of the Red Scare, the society turned to mass hysteria for fear of being accused, convicted, or blacklisted. Hysteria led people to make random accusations and they would do anything as an instinct of self-preservation.
  • Theme
  • The Crucible
  • Because the girls were afraid of getting caught and the repercussions of being out in the woods, they did anything to get the focus off of them. They started to call out any name they could think of to blame someone else instead of facing the consequences (pg 47-48).
  • We weren't alone in the woods! We saw Sarah Good with the Devil. We saw Goody Osborn with the Devil. And Goerge Jacobs, and Goody Sibber, Alice Barrow with the Devil.
  • McCarthyism
  • Over 300 actors and people of Hollywood were accused of being communist sympathizers and were out of a job because of the accusations ("McCarthyism").
  • This is the end of our careers! I can't believe we were blacklisted! Who gave away our names? We aren't Communist sympathizers!!
