First, I would send an email to families explaining my teaching ethos, attaching student scores/records, & asking them to sign up for our meeting.
Dear Families, I welcome you to my classroom for parent teacher conferences! I look forward to speaking with your about how we can support and nurture your student's unique abilities and strengths. . . .
PICK A DAY/TIME
At the meeting, I would have copies of student scores and attendance record, samples of student work, and my rubric, class policies and course syllabus or learning objectives. I would ask the parents to share about their child and their concerns or goals for him/her. I would do active listening, and build a partnership, not act as an authority on their child.
Together, we can create some learning & behavior goals for their student. After the meeting, I will email the parents to follow up, confirm our goals, and set appointments for any next steps toward student & family support if needed.
