Storyboard Text

  • Simile: "... the dominoes were falling like dead bodies in the living room" (Pg 410)
  • This simile relates to the Jewish walking in the streets to later be killed like the dominoes falling. 
  • Rudy and his sisters are playing with dominoes in their living room
  • Personification: "They only walked home together with aching feet and tired hearts" (Page 427)
  • Liesel gets angry with Rudy and walks away, at this moment Rudy finally caught up to Liesel. 
  • Their hearts are tired because both of their family members are on the battlefield. 
  • Personification: "The mannequins held their ridiculous poses" Page 427
  • Liesel and Rudy are outside of a suit shop and they're going to steal something for Rudy for his X-mas gift. 
  • SIMILE
  • Personification: "The smoke bombs stood like matchsticks in the ground, filling the city's lungs" (Page 433)
  • This simile shows how much destruction there is. 
  • PERSONIFICATION
  • Foreshadowing: "Hans Hubermann thought of another Rudy then."... "Please, he asked into a sky he couldn't see, let Rudy be safe". (Page 437)
  • Hans is thinking about the fact of being back home and his loved ones are sick or harmed. The 12 yr. old reminds Hans of Rudy. 
  • PERSONIFICATION
  • Conflict: "Liesel rushed over. She crouched above him. Kiss him, Liesel, kiss him. Are you all right, Rudy? Rudy?" (Pg. 455)
  • SIMILE
  • Hans, in this scene, is witnessing the destruction of a bombing.
