The yellow paint is from volcanoes, so it is quite deadly. If you swallow some, you will become sleepy, sick, and dizzy. Then you will vomit lots and have a taste of metal in your mouth, along with bad pains in your belly-- And then you will fall into a deathlike sleep and die!
I don't think Carmina is naturally sick. I think she might have eaten poison.
Players arrive at the Palace of Nonsuch. Lady Grace and her friends watch the players arrive. The players will perform to Queens Elizabeth I and the Court. Everyone is looking forward to watching the play.
Will you make enquiries for me, as my privy Lady Pursuivant, and continue to be discreet?
Three days after the players arrive, Carmina gets very ill, but Lady Grace's uncle - who is a doctor at the castle - can't figure out why Carmina is sick, as she has no fever.
I've been sitting in the oak tree watching the workroom for you and I saw Nick Hilliard sneaking something into his belt pouch!
It can't be Nick!
Lady Grace keeps Lady Sarah company while Lady Sarah poses for the Queen's portrait, under the guidance of Mrs Teerlinc. Nick, an artist, lets Lady Grace have a turn at painting, but she gets some of the yellow paint on her fingers. Then she reaches over to pick up a sugar ribbon to snack on. Mrs Teerlinc swoops Lady Grace's hand away from the snack. Nick tells her about the poisonous yellow paint.
You don't seem to be using much yellow, so why did you steal more yellow orpiment today?
Worried, Lady Grace tells the Queen that she thinks that Carmina has been poisoned. She wonders if the poisoning has been accidental or deliberate. She also wonders if the poison was meant for Carmina or the Queen. The Queen asks Lady Grace to find out more, but not let anyone else know about the poisoning.
Lady Grace's friends, Ellie, the laundry girl, and Masou, the acrobat, help find out where the poison might come from. Ellie watches the kitchen to see if anyone is poisoning the food. Masou watches the workroom for Lady Grace all morning, trying to find out who is stealing the yellow paint.
Lady Grace, Ellie, and Masou follow Nick, who is seen taking a package from the workroom. They find that Nick is innocent as he explains that the paint he uses to paint his pictures is too expensive to buy, which is why he is sneaking the paint from the workroom.
It wasn't orpiment I stole. I don't need orpiment for what I'm painting. I need blue lapis lazuli.
