  • The Puritans in Salem were very superstitious, always worried about Satan and witchcraft.  The events of 1692 shocked the colony  and has left a blemish on American history.
  • In the winter of 1692, several young girls began to exhibit odd behaviors that were believed to be from witchcraft.  The girls accused their slave, Tituba of witchcraft.
  • Tituba was questioned, confessed and pointed the finger at others.
  • Soon, neighbors were accusing neighbors of witchcraft!  Over 200 people in the Salem area were accused of being a witch.
