- Grandfather buys toto from a Tongadriver for fiverupees. Toto wasa pretty monkey and he looked so out of place that grandfather decided to add him to his private zoo.
- I will keep Toto a secret from my wife until she is in a particularlygood mood
- grandfather and I put him away in a little closet in my bedroom where he was tied securely - or so we thoughtto a peg in the wall
- A few hours later, when Grandfather and I came back to release Toto,we found that the hetore up the wallpaper thatgrandfather had chosen for the walls andshredded my schoolblazer
- so Grandfather, who had to leave to Dehra Dun the next daydecided to take him along
- His presence in the house still a secret, Toto was now transferred to a big cage in the servants’ quarters where a number of Grandfather’s pets lived very sociably together but the monkey wouldn’t allow any of the other pets to sleep at night
- He and Totomade it through most of the trip withoutany incident but at the railwayturnstile Toto suddenly poked his headout of the bag and scared the ticketcollector
