  • It's 1914 in The United States of America. Its the progressive era and changes are happening, one of those changes being factories and a new work force. But, this work force faces quite a few issues. Some of those issues were low wage and child labor.
  • Work
  • One issue is child labor. In many Factories around the country there are kids working in dangerous jobs. Not only do these kids work dangerous jobs, but they work long hours and for no pay a lot of the time. Most kids in the country are missing out on an education to pretty much work slave labor.
  • Another issue was low pay. Many workers would work 16 hour days just to make a few cents an hour. Many workers were poor and couldn't afford basic needs but they couldn't quit their job as it' was their only source of income.
  • This is Henry Ford, owner of the Ford company. He worked to solve the issue of low wage and working conditions and pay in his factories.
  • This is Florence Kelley, an activist in the progressive era. She worked to solve the issue of Child Labor by protesting and campaigning.
  • Henry Ford solved the issue for his working by improving his wages to 5 dollars a day and giving them benefits, most workers then saw only a few cents to a few dollars a day. HE only improved the amount of time they worked by having them only work 8 hours a day and giving them 2 days off a week.
  • Florence Kelly solved the issue of child labor by running campaigns and protesting. She became the secretary of the NCL and they worked tirelessly by running many campaigns until eventually laws were passed banning the production of products made by children.
  • Because of these two the world has changed a lot. Without them there's a good chance that wages in America would still be low and there would still be a large poor class and people would be well overworked. Children would still be working and still be lacking education which would set the world back for years and years.
