  • The settlers in the New England colonies had to turn to their environment to make a profit. The fishing, timber, and whaling industries became the stable economy in the cold winter
  • Question
  • How would you compare and contrast Jamestown and Plymouth?
  • The Pilgrims had a harsh journey across the Atlantic Ocean because a storm blew then off. Instead of landing in Virginia they ended up in Cape Cod.
  • The men of Plymouth wrote a plan of government for their colony, known as the Mayflower Compact.
  • Plymouth and Jamestown were both English settlements. One difference is that Jamestown let only men in their colony when they first got there, but Plymouth was more welcoming to all. Another difference is in their industries: Jamestown's industry was tobacco and Plymoth's industries were whaling, timber, and fishing. They were also both successful.
