  • 1918, Rolihlahla Mandela is born in Mvezo, a tiny village in the Transkei, Africa
  • In 1944 Nelson Mandela and other activiest form the A.N.C youth league. This marked a shift in the congress to a mass movement
  • Nelson Mandela was arrested in 1962 and spent 27 years in jail for political offenses 
  • Nelson Mandela was let free and had a speech. In his speech he talked about how he wanted to end white rule in Africa. He also did many other things after he got out of prison.
  • Nelson mandela became won the Nobel Peace Prize 1993 and the first black President of South Africa in 1994
  • This connects to Salva in a long walk to water because Salva went through hard moments like Nelson. Salva was attacked and had to run as a refugee. Also he witnessed his Uncles death Nelson was arrested twice but still fought for African American rights in South Africa and stop white rule.
