  • Welcome. Today I will be telling you about metal elements. (created by: Annelise Bieniecki)
  • 2 interesting facts are: Mercury (if you touch it) can be very poisonous to humans. Mercury is used to make scientific instruments like a thermometer.
  • Mercury (Hg)It is found in the Earths crust. It is used for electrical and electronic applications. It was discovered in Egyptian Tombs that date from 1500 BC.
  • Gold (Au)    Gold is found on every continent on earth except for Antarctica. Gold is used to make jewelry. It was discovered at Sutter Creek near Coloma, California. 
  • 2 interesting facts about gold: The largest gold bar weighs 250 kg (551 lb) , and Gold is edible. 
  • Copper (Cu)It was found in the free metallic state in nature. It is used today for electrical equipment such as wiring and motors. It was discovered in Iraq (9000BC)
  • Copper is necessary for human health. Copper is a natural antibacterial agent.
  • Lead (Pb) Found in earths crust.  Its used today as a covering on some wires and cables to protect them from corrosion. It was discovered in nature in ancient times. 
  • Lead facts: Lead is one of the metals known to ancient man. Lead is highly toxic.  Iron facts:Iron is the 6th most common element in the universe. Plants use the iron in chlorophyll. 
  • Iron (Fe)Found in Earths crust/ much of earths core is thought to be composed of iron. Manufactures steel, used in civil engineering. It was discovered in Iraq/ Mesopotamia.
