Storyboard Text

  • Joan Higginbotham August 3rd, 1964 American Engineer, and former NASA astronaut Space Shuttle Discovery STS-116
  • From a young age Joan Higginbotham had always loved science, math and technology. She was always tampering with something dealing with technology.
  • She signed up for an engineering job, but sadly they weren't hiring at that time, and she was disappointed.
  • She went to the  Florida Institute of Technology for college and in dorm room when she received a call from NASA, giving her a job offering there. Someone there looked at her resume and thought she would be a good addition to the team.
  • Her first mission was STS-116. The space crew spent 12 days in space orbit (December 9, 2006- December 22, 2006). Six other astronauts were aboard with Joan.
  •  When she landed, at that time, she was the third African American to go to space and she was noticed by the news and paparazzi for that.
