Joan Higginbotham August 3rd, 1964 American Engineer, and former NASA astronaut Space Shuttle Discovery STS-116
From a young age Joan Higginbotham had always loved science, math and technology. She was always tampering with something dealing with technology.
She signed up for an engineering job, but sadly they weren't hiring at that time, and she was disappointed.
She went to the Florida Institute of Technology for college and in dorm room when she received a call from NASA, giving her a job offering there. Someone there looked at her resume and thought she would be a good addition to the team.
Her first mission was STS-116. The space crew spent 12 days in space orbit (December 9, 2006- December 22, 2006). Six other astronauts were aboard with Joan.
When she landed, at that time, she was the third African American to go to space and she was noticed by the news and paparazzi for that.
