Harlem Renaissance

Storyboard Description

Storyboard Text

  • The Harlem Renaissance took place in the 1920's.
  • It was an intellectual and cultural revival of African American music, dance, art, fashion, and literature.
  • The northern Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem was meant to be an upper-class white neighborhood in the 1880s, but rapid overdevelopment led to empty buildings and desperate landlords seeking to fill them.
  • This allowed for more middle class African American American families to move into the neighborhood, and soon more and more kept coming.
