Storyboard Text

  • Setting: All the gods get an invite to the Peleus, king of the Myrmidons Peleus’ wife wedding, but Eris, the goddess of discord wants not to invite because wherever she went she took trouble with her. Enraged by this she comes to the wedding uninvited. Eris traces “To the fairest” on the side of a golden apple which cases Hera, Athene, and Aphrodite to fight over it.

  • Scene 2Setting: The last son was born to Priam and his wife Queen Hecuba and they called him Paris, but instead of rejoicing soothsayers had foretold that she would give birth to a firebrand that would burn down Troy. So, after he was born and named, the king bade a servant carry him out into the wilderness and leave him to die, but herdsman searching for a missing calf found the babe and brought him up as his own.
  • Hera: It should be mine. As wife to Zeus, the All-father, and queen of all the gods.
  • Athene: No it shouldn’t. I have a better right, for the beauty of wisdom that surpassed all else.
  • Aphrodite: (smiles) Who had a better claim to beauty’s prize than the goddess of beauty herself.
  • Narrator: They fell to arguing among themselves; the argument became a quarrel, and the quarrel grew more and more bitter. Each of the goddess called upon the assembled guests to judge between them, but the other guests refused because whichever goddess they chose to receive the golden apple, they would make enemies of the other two
  • Narrator: The boy grew tall and strong and beautiful, the swiftest runner and the best archer in all the country around. He fell in love with a wood nymph called Oenone who loved him.
