Storyboard Text

  • The American Indians really liked their land and they were happy with their lives.
  • However, settlers were very interested in their land and wanted to live their.
  • I wish I lived on their land.
  • I want to move there!
  • Let's make a treaty! To protect them from land rushes.
  • So senator Henry Dawes made the Dawe's Act (orGeneral Allotment Act)
  • Tada! This act will help them with that land!
  • The Dawe's Act gave the president the ability to divide up the American Indian land into allotments and sell it.
  • American Indian families that wanted the land had to register for land on a tribal land.
  • However, the land alloted to them was very desert-like and not at all good for farming the way they were used too.
  • This land is awful! I don't want to learn a new way of farming!!
  • Eventually (through trial and error) hey were able to grow accustomed to the land and make it their home
