  • "He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish" (Hemingway 1).
  • "The shack was made of the tough budsheilds of the royal palm which are called guana and in it, there was a bed, a table, one chair and a place on the dirt floor to cook with charcoal" (Hemingway 15).

  • "Now is the time to think of only one thing.  That which I was born for" (Hemingway 40).
