After many nobles fled France after their chateau was burned, Marie-Antoinette wrote to neighboring monarchs stating that she and Louis wanted to leave France and that they hoped their friends would invade France, put down the revolution and restore power to Louise.
Marie Antoinette was the subject of many rumours about love affairs, expensive clothes and over spending. She was criticised by many for the way she interfered with Louis's attempts to govern the country. She controls the mind of her husban who has a weak mind.
King Louis XVI came to the throne in 1774, was an absolute monarch, and believed his power had been given to him by god. Louis was a family man and even during the Estates General meeting, Louise was more concerned with his son who was dying of tuberculosis than the political stress he was under.
Louis planned to escape Montmedy and his family wore disguises and carried fake passports so he could get help from the other monarchs.
The Queen insisted that the family goes together in a single buggy, bodyguards wore easily recognizeable uniforms, there were 6 people in the buggy instead of 5 like on the passport. Once people realized it was him, a huge mob formed and the king refused to shoot his way through.
Once the family was captured, the mobs ordered that the queen should be excecuted by guillotine while the king had to become a constitutional monarch. Louis then swore an oath of loyalty.
