Thetis had given birth to six sons and all had mysteriously died in infancy, but as fate would have it Thetis had a seventh son, in which whom they named Achilles.
Where is Thetis and Achilles?
Thetis was determined not to loose this son so she secretly vowed to make Achilles invulnerable. Without telling her husband, she took Achilles into the underworld and dipped Achilles the river styx.
The river was swift and Thetis did not want to loose her baby, so she held him tightly by one heel. The magical protecting waters washed all over Achilles, except for the heel that his mother held.
Pelius learned that Thetis was gone, king pelius was suspicious! His wife had been acting strange and was concerned about Achilles safety.
That night as Pelius pretended to sleep he saw Thetis remove Achilles from his cradle and place him in the fire. Pelius lunged from his bed and grabbed Achilles out of the fire!
