Cora and Ollie set out for California. Cora is apprehensive but open to this new adventure.
Ollie and Cora exchange stories, and Cora starts to relax after learning that Ollie is a freed slave himself originally from Alabama
But Ollie's intentions were not as pure as they seemed
California here we come
After the intensity of the last few months of her life, Cora is finally relaxed and lays down to sleep during their long journey
Ollie had been hired by a plantation owner in a nearby city to poach escaped slaves and bring them to his plantation, an insidious and cheap way to get more slaves. Ollie was an amoral man, solely motivated by selfish intentions
After all her struggles, Cora was right back where she started. Her tenacity and fervor still intact, she vowed to herself to continue to try and live in a world where she could be accepted.
