Making a Great Deal With Cotton that Were Produced in Texas
The Americans Outnumbered the Tejanos
Americans were Desperate For Land
American settlers were from Southern states, where slavery was still illegal. They even brought their slaves with them. Because slavery was illegal in Mexico, many settlers were afraid the Mexicans would not let them keep their slaves.
Texas was separated from most of Mexico, by large stretches of desert, with little in the way of roads. A great deal of cotton and other expert goods were produced in Texas, but it was very difficult to get these goods to a Mexican port.
In the 1820's and 1830's, Americans were desperate for land. Texas has some great land for farming and ranching , & when it was opened up, many Americans went there as fast as they could.
