The Younger family lives in a small but cared apartment in Chicago. Big Walter, Mama's husband is died, and the family will receive 10 000$ of life assurance soon. Everyone has different wishes to spend the money; Walter wants to open a liquor shop and Beneatha wants to save it for her futur medical studies. She also discover that she is pregnant.
Mama refuses to give the money to Walter because she is disagree with the idea of invest in a liquor shop and instead she buy a house in the Southside, an all white neighborhood. This can be dangerous but Ruth agree with her because she wants better living conditions for Travis.
Their future neighborhood send Mr. Lindner to the Younger, who offers them money for stay away and don't move, but they refuse.Mama gives the rest of the money to Walter to open his liquor shop and to put aside for Beneatha.
Walter's business partner Willy Harris take all the money and runs off with. The Younger family learn that Walter didn't place the money for Beneatha in bank.
Walter call Mr. Lindner for the money but finally decide to move in the new house. Asaigai proposes to Beneatha to marry her and to move in Africa.
The play ends on moving day, all the family is excited about their fresh new and own home.
