  • When Salva was at school one day when he was 11, the war started to happen is Sudan in 1985.His school was evacuated and was sent to run to the bush. He had no family and he was all alone. Salva ended up finding a barn when he was walking. He decided to stay there till he found someone or something to help him survive. The lady who owned the barn watched  him for a couple days until it got bad enough she had to start walking but couldn't bring Salva with her. when he was getting ready to leave he heard some voices and saw they were from his tribe. He asked to tag along but the men said Salva would slow them down.  Salva shows that he feels confused and doesn't know what to do all alone in the woods by himself.
  • Salva's growth has changed a lot. He luckily found his uncle on the way and he helped Salva throughout everything. Uncle shared all the food and water with him and even encouraged him when Salva felt like just giving up. They found a boat and is going to take it to go find the fisherman village with all the food they could get because they fishermen trusted uncle. they decided to catch some fish for their own. While they were on the boat they got attacked by mosquito bugs. Salva showed that he was very determined to persevere and find food with all the hope uncle gave him.
  • Salva was chosen to go to America with a family that would take care of him. There was four kids and the mother and dad plus Salva living in the house.They treated him with much care and respect for everything he has been through. Salva's growth from the beginning  of the story to the end of the story was a huge difference. He went from being scared and wanting to give up to be happy with his new family.
