Hi Josie! My name is Bethany and I am your babysitter! Tonight, we are going to learn about heat and thermodynamics!
Do you feel that warmth on your face and hands? That heat is transferred from the fire. It is called radiation.
I am hungry. How about if we make smores?
Notice how it is warmer upstairs than it was downstairs. That is because of convection. Hot air rises and cold air sinks!
Yeah whatever. I got the stuff for smores. Let's go.
I want hot chocolate.
The marshmallows touching the fire is called conduction.
The pot heating up the hot chocolate is a conductor because it is a metal containing heat.
That would be REALLY cold hot chocolate!
That reminds me! I have not taught you about absolute zero. Absolute zero is 459.67 degrees Fahrenheit. It is when there is zero particle movement at all. It is impossible to reach.
