  • In 1215, rebellious barons forced King John to agree to terms they had set in place in order to take power away from him. The document is the Magna Carta and it outlines the due process of law, which any nations still follow to this day.
  • Okay! Okay! Please, I shall agree to your terms.
  • It is over King John, we shall not stand for your tyranny any longer! Agree to our terms or you will live to regret it!
  • In 1076, Pope Gregory VII excommunicated King Henry from the Catholic church and journeyed North to find a new emperor. King Henry then traveled through harsh conditions in order to apologize to the Pope and ask for his forgiveness. The excommunication was then lifted, resulting in Henry invading Rome and exiling the Pope years later.
  • Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
  • It is alright Henry, the Lord finds forgiveness for you in his heart.
  • The Crusades were expeditions of European Christians to the Middle East in order to recapture the holy land from Muslims and to spread Christianity's reach throughout the world. They were relatively unsuccessful other than the capture of Jerusalem.
  • Tis' but a flesh wound!
  • The Black Death tore through Europe during the Middle Ages and killed an estimated 30-60% of all people living there at the time. The disease was originally spread by fleas but could then be contracted by bodily fluids.
  • I know, Paul here is the fifth one today.
  • I can't believe this disease has wiped out half the town.
  • The Hundred Year's War was a war between France and Britain. This war was the first to use new weaponry such as the cannon and had heroes such as Joan of Arc who led a French counterattack against the English and was later awarded sainthood for her deeds.
  • Quickly men! Storm the castle and help rid our lands of this English scum!
  • Castles were key features of the Middle Ages in that it allowed for powerful rulers to protect their citizens behind large walls. Many castles were similar but all were unique in their own ways. Key features of the castles were the portcullis, arrow loops, murder holes, and moats.
  • Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!
