Welcome! Today this show is all about metals, espacially the properties of them. Angie here, is in the town and she is going to tell us about metals and their properties and what us humans use them for.
Metals are used in everyday life. The reason that we use them so much is because they are easy to shape and use. This metal lamp-post is made out of metal and look at the detail at the top. And the drain cover is made out of metal.
Look, this clothes rail is in a perfect, smooth circle. This is another reason why we use metal so much. It is malleable, that means it can hammered or pressed into shape without breaking or cracking.
Telegraph wires are made of metal. The reason we use metal for telegraph wires is because they are ductile, which means that it can be drawn out into thin wire easily. We also use it because it is malleable and a great conductor of electricity.
Let's go into the house and see what metals we use in everyday life.
The pans we use are also made out of metal. We use metal to make pans because it is a great conductor of heat. Especially copper pans. They conduct heat five times better than iron pans.
