While Max is staying in the basement he paints over Mein Kampf and makes a book for Liesel. Called The Standover Man. It talks about how he thought his father figure would be a man but it turned out to be Liesel because she cared for him.
Hans Is Drafted
The people of Himmel Street all moved into Fielder's cellar because there was a siren for an air raid. Liesel reads to the people because it calms them down. They find out it was a false alarm.
Himmel Street Bombing
Hans tried to give a Jewish man bread who was in crucial pain during a parade. A Nazi soldier caught him and whipped him. This put Max in danger so Max had to flee.
Max Finds Liesel
Hans is drafted to fight in WW2 to fight with german army. Liesel stays home with Rosa and they build a stronger bond.
While Liesel was writing her own book called The Book Thief in the basement Himmel Street was bombed. She was the only survivor on the street because the siren was late.
After the bombing Liesel spent her time in Alex Steiner's tailor shop. One day Max walks in the shop looking for Liesel. The two hugged, laughed, and cried on the floor. Max had survived the concentration camp.
