Storyboard Text

  • In 1864, General William Sherman made history when he and his soldiers marched from Atlanta to Savannah
  • I will lead all of you 60,000 men into the southern city of Atlanta
  • Sherman ordered that Atlanta’s military resources, including munitions factories, clothing mills and railway yards, be burned.
  • Sherman divided his army up into 4 different forces to give his troops more area to get food and supplies.
  • As Sherman and his troops headed towards Savannah, the small Confederate force there fled.
  • The March to Sea came to an end on December 21, 1864 when Sherman captured Savannah.
