Phineas Gage was head of a railroad building group. He was very good at controlling is workers.
One day, Phineas got distracted and dropped his three foot tamping iron causing it to shoot up through his left cheekbone, through his left eye, and out of his forehead.
His men carried him in a wagon to a local hotel where a doctor cared for him.
Phineas's doctor was quite shocked to see that Phineas was alert, awake, and seemed relatively normal.
After the doctor examined his head, he thought Phineas would not live for a long time but after getting over a few sicknesses, Phineas lived for 11 more years.
