The three witches appear out of a storm and plan to meet again to tell Macbeth his prophecies.
At a military camp, a wounded captain returns from the Scott's battle with the Irish invaders. He tells King Duncan about the courage Macbeth and Banquo fought with.
Duncan makes Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor for being a brave and noble hero for the victorious army.
The three witches see Macbeth and Banquo coming their way. They tell them their prophecies.
They call Macbeth "Thane of Cawdor" which surprises him since he did not know about Duncan's decision yet. Then they tell him he will be king which makes him want to know more but the witches turn to Banquo. They tell him that his sons will be kings.
Duncan is going to go to Macbeth's castle so Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth to let her know of the king's arrival.
