Storyboard Text

  • Key Event That Propels The Plot...
  •
  • El Patron is a monster.
  • Why?
  •
  • Quote From The Text...
  •
  • What am I?
  • Outcome...
  •
  • You are my clone!
  • What Is a clone?
  • Matt questions why everyone is afraid of El patron, and he also questions why he was with Cecilia and not El patron, and if he is being “loaned”.
  • Key Event That Propels The Plot...
  • He does not have long.
  • “He wondered why El Patrón was so frightening since the man was said to be old and weak. Matt knew he was El Patrón’s clone, but he was unclear about the meaning of the word. Perhaps El Patrón had loaned him to Celia and would someday want him back (37)”.
  • Quote From The Text...
  • He is over 140 years old..  We have to say goodbye...
  • This quote makes Matt question a lot of things. He wants to find out who El patron is and why people talk about him so much, but also Matt wants to know what being “El Patron’s Clone” means to him and everyone else. Matt is “unclear about the meaning of the word”, and soon he may just find out what he is and why he is here. All of these questions make Matt want to find out more, and this propels the plot forward.
  • Outcome...
  • Am I your replacement?
  • Cecilia mentions that El Patron is 140 years old and that he is “going away”. She says there will be a ceremony, and we have to say goodbye to him.
  • “Celia said the excitement had been too much for someone who was 140 years old… ‘We have to say good-bye to him. Everyone’s coming, and you’d better talk or you’ll be in big trouble (59)”.
  • The quote here tells us that many people are preparing for El Patron’s death. Cecilia states that he is “140 years old” and Maria states that “We have to say goodbye to him”, possibly indicating that Matt was created with the sole purpose of replacing El Patron when he died. Matt might find out about this. The fact that Matt might find out about this, is a huge point in propelling the story by creating a great problem that Matt may have to solve.
