Wilson White lives in New York City where the "Peacekeeper" algorithm keeps track of everyone's actions and predicts their likely hood of committing a crime so they can be stopped before it happens. Wilson works as an accountant for a large company
Hear those sirens? I hear them every night out here
I gotta do something about this...
Wilson's best friend, Tom Travis, gets arrested because the Peacekeeper thinks he will commit a crime based on his different behavior after his father's unexpected death
Crossing The First Threshold
Wilson doesn't want to throw away his comfortable life and he knows that he can't act different or he'll be the next one locked up. Because of this, he doesn't change any of his routine for a week even though things aren't the same without Tom
Tests, Allies, Enemies
Attention, this is your Mayor. There are enemies of the peace among you
As Wilson walks home exactly one week from Tom's arrest, an old man starts talking to him about how often people are arrested after they hear the sirens of someone else being arrested.
Wilson has been arrested after he started to talk more with people who have a record of being "dangerous to the peace". His friends are now much more willing to do something about this since two of their innocent friends have been arrested. They ambush the cop taking Wilson to jail along with some others who Wilson had recently met
Wilson and his allies take out the monitoring units from the sides of their heads behind their ears. As they are doing this they hear the Mayor announce over the radio broadcasts that they are wanted. There's no turning back
