hhmmm...Why must I come all the way here to pick fruit when I can just bring the plant to me...
The Neolithic Age
Now we have a surplus of food and we won't go hungry and we can build comfortable shelters!
This was the paleolithic times, in this time people were nomads, meaning that they had to move around to find food. But hunting was dangerous and because they had to move everywhere they had to shelter in cold, dark, hard caves since they had no permanent shelter.
Working together to build a community
Help me finish building this house!
Then people started having ideas to tame animals and use them to get food and they also thought about planting seeds and growing their own food.
Around 8000 B.C.E. people started planting seeds and domesticating animals. They didn't need to hunt anymore so that meant that they could build permanent shelters so they don't need to shelter in caves because they can grow their own food.
Beginning of trade
People work together so they can finish things faster like building houses, farming crops, and other things. When they are in greater numbers they can accomplish more task faster than in the Paleolithic times where there were only 20-60 people so there seemed like there was more to do. When the people finished their work they would still have enough energy to make their lives more comfortable and safer.
Since there was a surplus of food so others started to do different jobs such as pottery, basket weaving, and tool making. They would not only make these things but they would decorate them too like on vases and pots you can see different designs.
Me too, this is better than having to find food all the time.
I love my new job!
The start of trading was in the Neolithic age because during the Paleolithic age people were mainly focused on getting food and rarely traded with other groups. Traders would find things people wanted that they didn't have so traders would go find those items for people. Because traders traveled everywhere they would spread ideas and knowledge from place to place.
So I will give you this wheat and you give me the basket. Deal?
Sure, the place I live does not have these items.
