Storyboard Text

  • The Sahara Desert Northern-most part of Africa Monday, January 8, 2018 High temp for the day: 60 degrees
  • In, what is known as the hottest place on Earth, Algerians were unaware that an event, that isn't as rare as you would think, was about to occur later that night!
  • Precipitation was on it's way, but there was an abundance of colder air coming in aloft that would have an effect on the type of precipiation that would fall.
  • Over night the temps would drop and by the morning of Tuesday, January 9th, lows would be below freezing.
  • The mass of cold air and precipitation were surrounded by the Atlas mountains and created snowfall seen only several times in the last 40 years.
  • In some places on the Sahara Desert dunes, 16 inches of snow had fallen.

  • By mid afternoon, the snow had all melted.  Not before roads became icy and un-passable and children had a chance to go sledding for the first time.
