Education Reform, the second reform of the era of reform. this reform was made so kids get more of an education. Kids weren't getting a solid education like they needed. A lot of kids hardly went or didn't go at all.
People that wanted to have an education usually didn't attend school instead people hired tutors if they had the money to do so. Kids that didn't have the opportunity to go to school set firs, stole things, and destroyed people property. They weren't taught well so they didn't use there heads very well either.
NO GIRLS NO BLACKS
People believed putting these poor children that are causing trouble in school and giving them na education would help with all the trouble they cause. Big name cities like New York City opened up a public school for any kids to join.
People in Massachusetts gave there ideas back to Horace Mann and they all agreed to pay the taxes to have better schools. They also agreed to get teachers a salary and establish a special training for teachers.
By the mid 1850's cities from the East and West agreed to Mann's ideas and are using them. And soon most white boys were going to school. But girls weren't aloud in some schools. Some schools didn't allow blacks into schools but yet some did. And schools down south received less money for schools.
In 1837, Oberlin College in Ohio was the first school to officially allow girls into school. But not until the 1960's public schools allowed girls. But the whole time blacks were allowed to go but many didn't choose to because of all the threats they would face. Of it wasn't for Horace Mann our country and school systems wouldn't be the same to this day.
