Storyboard Text

  • Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin" to show the evils of slavery and the injustice of the Fugitive Slave Act.
  • The novel slowly started to spread to people in small towns.
  • Not so long after, the novel spread nationwide, and everyone has read it.
  • Northerners were heartbroken to read what goes on in the south involving slaves.
  • Southerners objected the novel and said it was fake since Stowe has seen little of slavery firsthand.
  • More Northerners are now seeing slavery as a moral problem facing every American. Southerners are saying the novel doesn't show a true picture of slavery. This has accelerated the war.
