How free is one's personal life when employed as an educator?
Good morning! Our PDD is on legal aspects in school. Our presenter today is Mr. Schmidt from the state.
We'll start by talking about conduct in the workplace. There have been a number of issues lately involving multiple types of misconduct. Most have made the news.
Good morning! I am Mr. Schmidt. I am here to talk about numerous items that have come up lately in the state. Please feel free to ask questions as we go along.
We've heard about the issues your talking about. But, we never seem to hear specific details about the incidents. Could you elaborate on what the issues were?
Yes. Snickerdoodle High School had an issue regarding sexual conduct. The person's involved were unable to perform their job duties which is why they are looking for people to finish out the school year.
How about the school just down the road? We heard there were multiple issues?
I heard it had to do with a staff member's excessive drinking.
Unfortunately, a nexus was found meaning they found evidence that he could no longer perform his job effectively. The staff member is currently on administrative leave until the board has its hearing.
I know that a staff member engaged in unprofessional conduct. He was using profanity in class. He also used vulgar and obscene language towards other staff members.
So these incidences are cases of immorality or immoral conduct?
That is correct. Any type of conduct that is immoral that creates an environment where you can not do your job effectively constitutes immorality.
What is it called when there is no justification for one's actions?
That term is misconduct in office. That one is not seen as much, but does exist.
