the climax is the point of which the conflict is resolved and the story outcome is clear. the narrator was literally being driven crazy because of the old mans eye. he was so repulsed by it he killed him and cut him in pieces. "yes, he was trying to comfort himself-but in vain. death had come with his black shadow before him."
the falling action occurs after the climax has been reached and the conflict has been resolved, starts to wrap up the story. the narrator was so proud that he killed and carefully got rid the body, later on in the story three police officers knocked on the door. "i finished, someone knocked at the street door. i went down to open it with a light heart. what had i to fear?"
the resolution is the outcome of the story. the narrator was slowly starting to feel guilty of what he has done to the old man. he started hearing the old mans heart beating under the planks. " the pounding became louder, i talked faster to get rid of it, but it kept getting louder. finally i found that the noise was not within my ears."
