  • Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities
  • External Conflict (Man vs Man) Ruth and Walter argue a lot and don't have a loving relationship. Walter thinks Ruth doesn't support him enough and doesn't love her the same way as he used to
  • Internal Conflict (Man vs Self) Walter thinks he is not being heard by his family members. He becomes depressed because he is not the man of the house and feels like he can't provide for his family.
  • External Conflict (Man vs Society) Lindner comes to Walters home to try and convenience him to not move into their neighborhood because they don't want black people in their home.
