  • When will the government become fair?
  • May all men be born equal!!
  • With the Old Regime still intact, there were 3 different social classes. Where there was a wide gap between the 1st and 3rd Estate. The last estate was made up of 97% of the poorest people, these people began to resent the higher status men. This also caused a largely growing middle class to become extremely frustrated.
  • The National Assembly decided to make the Declaration of the Rights of Man. This document claimed everyone to be a "citizen," and declared that all men are born free with equal rights. These rights are liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression. It also took away property and power from the Church.
  • France is now a constitutional monarchy!!
  • This is where King Louis XIV banished the National Assembly when he found out what they were up to, so they couldn't be in their original meeting place. This is where they swore the Tennis Court Oath. And under this oath they swore not to separate until France had a constitution.
  • With the King threatening to take military action against them, the National Assembly started rebelling against the King. They ended up storming into the royal prison of the Bastille, as it was a symbol of royal power. By storming the Bastille, the National Assembly freed 7 prisoners and collected weapons.
  • In 1791, the National Assembly issued the Constitution of 1791, which would reform France's government into a constitutional monarchy. Afterwards, the National Assembly changed into the Legislative Assembly. Under the new constitution, the King shared power with the Legislative Assembly.
  • At the end of the French Revolution, the monarchy was abolished, and everyone was being taxed fairly. Eventually, Napoleon was appointed the Emperor. As a result, France was peaceful for a period of time.
