Storyboard Text

  • Good Morning! Today we are going to be talking about how we treat each other in the classroom, in the playground, and anywhere else.
  • I want to have the classroom engaging in an open discussion about how we treat each other and how we want to be treated. The students will lead most of the discussion and I point out some of the things i expect. They will write these rules in their social contract.
  • Welcome
  • At this point the discussion is opened up to them to think about it. They must choose what is acceptable and what is not. They get to decide this.
  • I want you guys to think about this, " What are some ways you want to be treated by me, by each other, by anyone at this school?
  • Social Contract
  • Respect
  • Students share out loud some of the ideas of what they came up with and others listen. I suggest some ideas based on what they came up with, but keep it based on their ideas.
  • Okay, Some of you tell me what you came up with.
  • I want to be treated with respect.
  • Social Contract
  • The students discuss with each other their ideas of how they want to be treated. They get to take control of the classroom and set their rules.
  • Now, I want you to share with each other how you want to be treated. You have 45 seconds each then we will come back and share.
  • Social Contract
  • Respect, Honesty, Friendly....
  • The chosen student will write the classroom rules and then the rest of the students will sign it. This is so that it is in their handwriting and their own. This is because they still see me as not part of them, the students.
  • Pick some one to come up and write YOUR social contract.
  • Social Contract
  • After the students have written their own classroom rules down on a large sheet of paper, they will sign the contract. They agree to follow all the rules and they have discussed their consequences if those rules are broken.
  • Now go ahead and sign the contract if and when you agree with everything on it. These will be your rules and I will follow them too. Who wants to be first to sign?
  • Social Contract Respect Honesty Caring Friendly Helpful Responsible
