  • Somewhere in the colonies
  • Enough was enough!!
  • Then an idea came...
  • NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!!
  • Originally, the colonists came for religious freedom. During the 1700's many immigrated as indentured slaves in hopes of gaining economic opportunities that were available in the colonies. They wanted to be free from Britain, but many still identified as British.
  • Meanwhile in England...
  • The colonists were having to pay for everything. The Parliament need money to cover England's war debts. Acts such as the Tea Act, the Stamp Act, the Townsend Acts and then what became known as the Intolerable Acts. They were only allowed to purchase goods from Great Britain along with the taxes but had no representation in the British Parliament.
  • Things took a turn for the worst...
  • The colonists were at their wits end and they decided to just stop paying the taxes all together. There were no longer tolerating the abuse of power form King George. They were going to get their goods from somewhere else, even their beloved British tea. The famous phrase "No Taxation without representation" was born.
  • And so it begins...
  • King George was not going to tolerate the colonists' disobedience any longer. He was going to not only get his money for Great Britian, but he was going to show the colonists who was in charge.
  • I"LL SHOW THEM!!
  • The British Army was everywhere the colonists were not only threatened by the presence of the troops, but they were having to pay to feed and house them. This still did not make anything better for England or the Colonies. Tensions were rising between the two countries...
  • The colonists were left no choice but to fight for their freedom. The famous line "Give me liberty or give me death!" was shouted. The colonies were ready to cut all ties with England and start their own nation the way they choose to.
