At the begging of the story, Salva was scared. I know this because he repeatedly asked where were his parents.
In the middle, Salva shows perseverance and that he is determined. He pushes through the struggle of the lake even though there was a small chance he would survive. He also was determined to make it to a safe place and get across the river. This shows character growth because it shows he has all ready made it so far. It also shows that he can keep going with out his or anybody's help.
In the end of the story, Salva is confused but happy. He can't figure out how to adjust to his new life quickly. But he is also very happy and considerate. This helps to show Salva's character growth because it show him taking a big step in life and seeing that things can get better.
