Lily is a white girl who is trying to know herself and become more "girl like" Her father was abusive and she was over it. She runs away and doesn't go back. Lily is kinda a rebel who does whatever she feels like doing. Even if it means getting herself in trouble. She feels guilty for what she has done to her mother. she cannot forget what she had done.
Rosaleen is a black women who has worked for T ray sense Lily's mother died. She started off by being a slave in the fields to a housekeeper/ nana. She is very stuck up and doesn't care what others say. She cares about the people she loves.
August is a black lady who has been there for Lily's mother. Lily didn't know that until they had the talk. August is very sweet and nice but can also be very mean and stuck up. She is the oldest of the Boatwright sisters. Her mother loved summer and named all her daughters summer months.

Zach is a friend of the sisters who helps them with the honey hive. He is very sweet and never mean. Zach falls in love with Lily and so does Lily. they know it cant happen because he is black and she is a white girl.

May is a very sensible girl ever sense her twin sister died at only 15 years old. Her name was April. She misses her so much that if anything cruel happened in Mays life she would cry and go outside to a wailing wall she had in her back yard to relive stress.

T. Ray is Lily's father who is kind of abusive to her. He was having and argument when lily accidently shot fire and killed her mother. He thinks Lily doesn't remember but she does. He assumes a lot of things about his own daughter that aren't even true.
