  • Our troops are fighting too much! In order to limit violence, we need to seperate!
  • I declare we have the partition of India division to limit violence! MB
  • Cause #1: rising religious hostilities between Hindus and Muslims, more violence and fighting between groups
  • we will be separated and have to evacuate soon...
  • Cause #2: Provincial Elections (1937)- the success of Indian National Congress in the 1937 elections, communal parties felt insecure about their base which generated fear amongst its community. Along with that, compromise attempts failed.
  • Cause #3: Mountbatten decides on partition in early 1947 to avoid more violence.
  • We have to leave our homes, they are destroyed and we can't stay here!
  • Effect #1: The division split families and individuals all over the region ...one with a Muslim majority (Pakistan) and the other with a Hindu majority (India)
  • Effect #2: Outflow of the target minorities due to ethnic cleansing (forced migration, religious conversion and death). The split triggered mass riots, casualties and much more like racial tension and discrimination between Hindus and Muslims,
  • Effect 3: Mass Mobilization- about 14.5 million people were displaced after leaving destroyed homes and facilities.
