  • Good morning class. My name is Pedro and I am going to be your substitute teacher for this day.
  • Today's topic is going to be "The evolution of social sciences" or being more specific "Empiricism".
  • It is a philosophical movement that affirms that the sensitive experience and perception are channels for building knowledge.
  • For example: We know birds can fly, so every bird can fly.But what about penguins? This sentence is not so true, because the poor penguins are birds too but can't fly.
  • Yes, of course. For this method, the senses play a very important role, and through observation new concepts and ideas are created.
  • Could you give us more information about it?
  • This movement has its problems, that's why the penguin sentence as an example.
  • But, do we know who created this movement?
  • Excellent question Melissa. The philosophers John Locke, George Berkeley and David Hume were the creators.
  • So, in conclusion, these philosophers created it in the XVII and XVIII century and empiricism is based on the inductive method by which general conclusions are drawn to something in particular.
