Hello there, I am Lora. I am a psychiatrist.I'm here to teach you how reverse psychology works.
In case you don't know, reverse psychology is a method of having someone do the opposite of what you say.
The way reverse psychology works is because of reactance theory. The theory suggests that one would protect their freedom if they feel that their freedom is threatened.
When we forbid or doubt someone to do something, they tend to feel that their freedom is threatened and try to prove you wrong by doing the opposite of what you said. Unfortunately, reverse psychology doesn't work on everyone. Reverse psychology usually works on emotional, stubborn, or irritable people.
Along with that, using reverse psychology too much on one person can eventually make the person realize that you are trying to manipulate them, which can lead to trust issues overtime, so don't overuse reverse psychology.
And that wraps up our little lesson here. So see you the next time you need to know something new. Bye!
