  • Doctors could not understand or treat this disease with the technology they had
  • The plague was carried on fleas that landed on rats and infestered carts and cargo ships, journeying across Asia, Africa and Europe
  • It arrived suddenly in the mid 14th century
  • The victim would first begin with a fever, then they would get swollen lymph nodes, they would get chills and they would become weak.
  • The victim would die within a week of having the disease
  • One third of the population of Europe died because of the Black Death
  • People from lower classes that survived the Black Death could work their way up and determine their rights and freedoms
  • Peasants had very low immune systems and were the most people that died in the Black Death
  • Not only did peasants die but all levels in the social status died such as kings, nobles, lords and knights etc.
