  • Find Symbolism In The Great Gatsby!
  • Ominous Weather
  • A green light means to go, but it always seems to change to red, so a green light is the hopeful best case scenario.
  • Valley of Ashes
  • The overlooking eyes represent how the past stays with you, and watches over you, because the doctor’s office is shut down, and Wilson says the eyes are like god seeing everything.
  • East v. West
  • The rain was foretelling the bad experience between Gatsby and Daisy, hints at upcoming maladies.
  • The Valley of Ashes represents the people who did not enjoy the 1920’s because of wastefulness, entitlement and over-opportunism.
  • East Egg represents the East while West Egg represents the frontier of making it big on the stock market, so there is a rivalry between old and young money.
