  • YES!! Power in Congress!
  • Northern Free States: Feelings about the 36°30′ line?
  • Northern Free States: Who was involved?
  • We are John W. Taylor, Benjamin Tallmadge, and Abraham Lincoln.
  • Didn't like the idea of adding Missouri as a slave state because it would throw off the balance between slave and free states in Congress. More slave states in Congress meant that free states had way less say in Congress. Fortunately, Maine was added as a free state and that would restore the balance in Congress.
  • Southern Free States: Feelings about state additions?
  • There was more unclaimed land above the line than below. That meant there would be more free states than slave states in the end; thus, the free states would have more say and more power in Congress.
