In 1566, they arrived in present day Parris Island.
Land! It must be the New World!
In 1566, Pedro Menedez founded Santa Elena, and oversaw the construction of San Felipe, a fort that surrounded the colony.
The soil couldn't support farming enough to feed everyone, and there were many food shortages, especially during harsh winters.
I'm so hungry! I wish we had more food...
The Spanish have treated us so unfairly...
The colony survived ten years, but then got attacked by Native Americans.
